This kit is app controlled, and no handheld remote is included. You set colors, scenes and music sync from the Magic Lantern app on iOS and Android, and the controller has a built-in switch for on and off without reaching for your phone. It is not the same app as our interior ambient kit, so if you already run one of our interior kits, you will have both on your phone.

Power and Battery Safety

• Wire it to a switched 12V source. This is our recommended installation method. On a switched, or ACC, feed the system powers up with the car and shuts down with it, so nothing is left connected to your battery while the car is parked.
• A permanently live feed is a tradeoff, not a mistake. Some owners wire to a constant 12V source on purpose, so they can switch the lights from their phone without the ignition on. What you give up is that the controller stays connected to the battery the whole time the car is parked, and that counts against the 50 mA parked car budget below. On a car driven most days that is usually a fair trade. On a car that sits for long stretches, or one with a battery that is already marginal, use a switched source. If you want the phone control without the constant connection, run the feed from an ignition switched fuse in the fuse box, or use a relay with the coil triggered by ACC.
• The budget you are working inside is about 50 mA. That is the accepted figure for everything still drawing on a parked car, across the whole vehicle, shared with your car's own modules. It is why the feed you choose matters more than the kit itself.
• Use the fuse rating above. At 40 watts this is the heaviest single kit we sell, so do not share a low rated circuit with it, and do not fit a larger fuse to stop one blowing.
• To check your own car. Put a multimeter in series with the negative battery terminal, lock the car, and wait 30 to 40 minutes for the vehicle's own modules to go to sleep before you read it. Compare that with the kit unplugged. The difference is the kit.
• This does not affect your warranty. Hardwiring to a switched 12V accessory source is our recommended method and is not an exclusion. Incorrect wiring, and improper power or ground connections, are.
